Your final paper is supposed to be a LITERARY, not a Social Science, research paper. You may use social science data to support your thesis, but ultimately you will be presenting a LITERARY ANALYSIS of a work of fiction (Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy) . You may choose your specific topic but your paper must be a critical analysis of one of the works we studied during this term. If you simply turn in a PLOT SUMMARY, instead of a critical analysis with a clearly stated thesis, you will receive an F as a grade. You will use, a minimum of three (3) peer reviewed, literary secondary sources to support your thesis. In your paper, you will analyze one of the works of fiction studied in this course–NOT a social issue. Papers should follow the most current MLA guidelines.
The final, revised, version of your research paper should be FOUR to Five (4-5) pages long (body/text only)—no more, no fewer.
Based on the poem Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy
Thesis: Gender stereotypes and body stereotypes can be extremely harmful. These stereotypes not only affect the way people treat and think about others but also how people interpret information about themselves. Further knowledge and awareness of this topic and its effects will hopefully help people to implement change. This change can be on a large scale or a simple as being more mindful of how we treat those around us.
